Recruitment and Selection Skills

The appointment of staff is one of the most important functions in which any employee may become involved in. As we recognise that our most valuable resource are our employees, the importance of making the right appointment is crucial to the success and well-being of any organisation.

Recruitment and selection in the public sector has two main elements: recruiting the right person for the right job; and interviewing within the organisation's policy guidelines and complying with current legislation requirements.

A 2 day on-site course. For up to 10 participants.

Course designed for anyone who will be part of a recruitment and selection panel.

Course Aims and Objectives

At the end of the course the participants will be able to:

  • Plan and structure the interview
  • Understand the legal responsibilities of the interviewer
  • Be aware of the composition of the panel and of the panel members' responsibilities
  • Understand the importance of preparation, defining the position and the candidate criteria
  • Analyse application forms and prepare candidate "shortlists"
  • Demonstrate appropriate listening, questioning and note taking / record keeping techniques

The course will also cover:

  • The importance of ensuring objectivity, and behaving in a non-discriminatory way
  • Awareness of Post Interview activities, short-listing for second / follow-up interviews
  • Making every candidate want to work with you
  • Recognising interview barriers, and being able to overcome them
  • Making the best recruitment decision

Public Courses

Workshop registration 9:00am-9:30am, finish 4:30pm. Your investment? £410 + VAT. This includes all workshop materials, refreshments and lunch.

In-House Training

An in-house one day course, anywhere in the UK, costs £1350 + VAT for up to 10 participants. This price is inclusive of all course materials and expenses.
